What Is It Like in Our Homes?

Southwest Potter House provides a safe, loving, warm, peaceful, and Godly environment. We laugh, cry, pray, play, and worship together. Our staff ministers to the entirety of the person, helping the participants become the well-rounded women of God that He originally intended for them to be.

We also prepare them to become productive members of our society, as well as to become good mothers, wives, friends, and citizens.

How Long Is the Program?

Our program lasts seven months in duration. During that time, our ladies are not allowed to work, because our main focus is on the spiritual needs more so than on anything else. We show the women who they are in Christ and how to walk in victory over the world, the flesh, and the devil. Our ministry is often even referred to as a small Bible college.

What Is a Day Like at the House?

Our day begins at 6:30 AM. The first hour is spent alone with the Lord, being quiet before Him and developing an intimate relationship with Him. At 7:30 AM, the ladies have devotions with the housemother. They share, cry, laugh, and begin their day with joy.

From 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, the ladies eat breakfast, get their showers, get dressed, and do daily chores. At 10:30 AM, there is another Bible study. From 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, they eat lunch, do homework, and have another 45 minutes of quiet time with the Lord.

At 4:30 PM, the founder, Melissa Adams, comes over and teaches the Word of God. She teaches them the Word from one end of the Bible to the other. After 4:00 PM, the ladies are free to walk, go to the gym and work out, do homework, or enjoy any other activities they wish to do before dinner.

After dinner, it varies from day-to-day, anywhere from doing nails and hair to having a ladies’ group over for food and fellowship. Then, from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM, the ladies spend another hour alone with the Lord. Lights are out at 10:00 PM.

What Is the Cost of the Program?

We ask for a $300-a-month donation per lady. This is a donation, not a requirement. We do not turn anyone away because of a lack of funds. However, we cannot operate without donations, as there are many expenses, including keeping up three homes and five vehicles.

Most people are willing to donate to help their loved one have a complete life change. Some get their churches or Sunday schools to help with this.

Is There Any Professional Help Available?

  • We have one dentist that offers services free of charge after a participant has been here for a few months, maintained a good attitude, proven herself, and been approved by the Southwest Potter House leadership.

  • We have a professional hairstylist named Heather who has studied and taught facial structures. Heather knows the kinds of hairstyles that fit people best and even does extreme makeovers.

  • We have a free clinic at Faith Clinic for anyone without medical insurance. Our ladies can see a doctor at the clinic on Mondays and Thursdays.

  • We have counselors from Jabbok Ministries, a free counseling service, which are available once a month.

How Is the Southwest Potter House Funded?

We have no state or federal funding and no grants. Our organization operates totally by faith. A small portion of our funds comes from family members. Most come from churches and women’s groups that are involved with us.

They give very generously and unselfishly to meet the needs of Southwest Potter House. When the Lord started this ministry through our founder, He put in her heart that God’s people should take care of God’s business, and they do! Praise Him for it all!

What Is the Success Rate at the Potter’s House?

The success rate is unbelievable. None of our girls want to leave. In fact, many of them stay involved on an ongoing basis. The ladies will all tell you that this is their new family, one that they want to be a part of for the rest of their lives. We develop such close bonds and see such awesome moves by God that everyone wants to remain a part of the ministry.
